Catalysis engineering for sustainability

Our research group is part of the Institute for Chemical Technology (ITQ, Valencia, Spain). We develop innovative materials and chemical routes to support the transition of the energy sector and the chemical industry toward sustainability. Through the integration of precision material science, advanced spectroscopic and imaging methods, and electrified/tandem conversion processes, we drive sustainability and train the next generation of industry and academy professionals.

RESEARCH STRATEGY

Our research concentrates in the development of selective chemical conversion routes, typically from light molecules such as CO, CO2, N2, NH3, methanol, etc which are relevant as renewable raw materials, to synthetic fuels and commodity chemicals demanded by industry and society. To this end, we work at the touching point of various disciplines, to (i) design nanomaterials with down to atomic precision, (ii) apply advanced 3D imaging and spectroscopic methods, in combination with data analysis routines, to rationalize the impact of the materials nano and microstructure on catalysis performance, and (iii) demonstrate (tandem) conversion processes at laboratory scale.
